    Warnings: Violence, Gore My Thoughts I knew I had to read this book the second that I laid eyes on it, the cover is nightmare fuel and the prospect of a haunted house in a Heian-era mansion complete with a tragic urban legend was too good to pass up. The Ohaguro-bettari, literally translating to Nothing But Blackened Teeth is a faceless yokai dressed in a wedding kimono that is known for luring in single men.     Warnings: Animal Abuse, Animal Death, Child Death, Gore My Thoughts Straight to the point and packs a punch, These Deathless Bones is a strong short story that unravels the evil stepmother trope from fairytale fiction. The Witch Bride is a vengeful femme fatale, the second wife of a king, a fearsome witch that scares the common people. She finds herself at odds with her stepson, a petulant prince more capable of evil than the mythologized witch. Khaw is a talented wordsmith and her prose is tight and razor-sharp. The story and setting are gloriously grimdark, and the Witch Bride is an interesting character that I would love to read more…

    The Terracotta Bride

    My Thoughts The Terracotta Bride was a surprising little novella, it had a lot going for it for such a small package and can easily be read in one sitting. It was imaginative and gave me a lot to think about, I’ve never read anything like it and I honestly wish that it could have been a little longer. Due to the length of this story, I was disappointed to find that the eternal life conspiracy mentioned in the synopsis was pretty lacking. There is a brief explanation of the theory and what it could do but it was both confusing and did not feel like it was developed enough.…
