    A Touch of Jen

Warnings: Sex, Violence My Thoughts Well, this was certainly one of the more bizarre books that I’ve read in recent memory. A Touch of Jen is psychedelic millennial satire horror that reads like a fever dream. I read this book in a frenzy, finishing in under 48 hours, I just felt compelled to keep turning the page and had a hard time putting it down. The story follows Remy and Alicia, a toxic couple obsessed with Jen, an instagram model that Remy used to work with. Remy is a pitiful ‘nice guy’ and Alicia has low self-esteem. Remy is not subtle about his disdain for his girlfriend, yet they stay…

    Let Her Be

Warnings: Relational Abuse, Suicide My Thoughts This story had such a good premise and I wish I could have loved it, I honestly truly did. The main character, Will, has been struggling to move on from his girlfriend after a tumultuous relationship that ended in a restraining order. He does all the things he should be doing, going to therapy, controlling his anger, trying to get his life going, but he finds himself stuck. He wishes so badly that he could get closure on their relationship. This story does a good job of exploring modern breakups in a world that has now been connected online through social media. It is…

    Treasure

Warnings: Violence My Thoughts Treasure is just that, a treasure! A darkly funny Nigerian satire and thriller, it delves into the glamorous world of social media and influencer culture. Treasure is single-minded in building her follower count as a form of validation, playing into a misguided fantasy of celebrity stardom. Her narrative is dizzying, detailing every small detail of building her online persona to present herself as a #queen. @Sho4Sure is an everyday SIMP, thrilled at the opportunity to meet gorgeous women through social media. He feels a connection through her pictures, and constantly follows her posts. He is deeply misogynistic, a “traditional” Nigerian man that feels entitled to Treasure’s…
